When planning a wedding, there are so many details to consider. Creating your wedding invitations is one of the most important aspects of the planning process. Your invitations are the first glimpse your guests will have into your big day, so it’s important to ensure they are clear, concise, and include all the necessary information.

Here are a few things to include in a wedding invitation so that you can create the perfect invite for your special day.

The Basics

First and foremost, your wedding invitation should include the basics – who, what, where, when, and how. This includes:

Names of the couple

Your wedding invitation should include the full names of the couple getting married. This can be done using first names only, first and last names, or full names, depending on your preference.

Date and time

The invitation should clearly state the date and time of your wedding ceremony and reception. This is important to ensure guests know when to arrive and when the festivities will end.

Location

The location of your wedding ceremony and reception should be clearly stated on the invitation. Include the venue’s name, address, and any additional details guests may need to find the location.

RSVP

Your wedding invitation should include a way for guests to RSVP. This can be done through an RSVP card, an email address, or a phone number. Make sure to include a deadline for RSVPs to get an accurate headcount for your wedding.

Additional Information

In addition to the basics, there are a few additional pieces of information you may want to include on your wedding invitation.

Dress code

If you have a specific dress code for your wedding, such as a black tie or casual, including this information on your invitation is a good idea. This will help guests know what to wear and feel comfortable at your wedding.

Reception details

If your reception is being held at a different location than your ceremony, you may want to include additional information on your invitation. This can include directions to the reception, parking information, or any other details guests may need to know.

Accommodations

If you have guests traveling from out of town, you may want to include information on local accommodations. This can include hotel recommendations, special rates, or any other helpful information for guests staying in the area.

Registry

While it’s considered poor etiquette to include registry information on your wedding invitation, many couples choose to include it on their wedding website or through a separate card. If you choose to include registry information, do so tastefully and appropriately.

Design Elements

In addition to the information included in your wedding invitation, it’s important to consider the design elements. This includes:

Colors

Choose colors that reflect the overall theme and style of your wedding. Consider using your wedding colors for your invitation to tie everything together.

Font

Choose a font that is easy to read and reflects the style of your wedding. Script fonts are popular for wedding invitations, but make sure the font is legible and easy to read.

Paper

Choose a high-quality paper for your wedding invitation. This will ensure the invitation looks and feels elegant and will be a lasting keepsake for your guests.

Envelopes

Choose a matching envelope for your invitation. Consider adding a liner or addressing the envelope in calligraphy for an extra touch of elegance.
